"Every
child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once (he or she)
grows up." Is it just a good hobby to develop? Or a good extra curricular activity to keep us out of trouble? What is the true value of art? If any? As one becomes engaged in the creative process and attempts to manipulate materials with the hands, brain growth happens. Even if the artwork doesn't look so great? Even when some believe the art looks a random scribbled mess? Yes! Each time a new experience and understanding occurs a new pathway is created from one neuron (or brain cell) to another. It is called an axon. The process of exploring and creating grows these pathways in our brain. Many tests show children perform higher academically when an art program is in place. Significant improvement has also been shown when an arts program is put in place where previously absent from the curriculum. These proven results are the bases for which schools ask for their funding. Some of the specific benefits from art are: Determination Art is highly expressive and also brings benefits related to one's personal concept such as: Confidence Art grows our brain and our person allowing us to apply ourselves more effectively!! "The arts are not just a frill. The arts are a response to our individuality and our nature, and help to shape our identity. What is there that can transcend deep difference and stubborn divisions? The arts. The arts do not discriminate. The arts lift us up."
