Whendy Merryman is a native Memphian and a graduate of the University of Memphis. She holds a degree in art therapy. She has owned and operated public studios offering creatve activities and art classes for all ages. Whendy operates out of her residential studio and Trinity Methodist Church in mid-town Memphis. Fall of 2008 Whendy became a full-time art instructor for Memphis City Schools at Vollentine Elementary.

Whendy now works out of her private studio, allowing her to pursue her interests in art education, art therapy and production of her own art work.

Whendy has conducted art therapy with special education students in the schools and behavior groups with at-risk youth. Along with her own programs, Whendy has worked with the Memphis Arts Council and the Shelby County Schools.

She likes to execute the traditional skills of drawing, painting and sculpting, but she is compelled to capture a loose whimsical element that she believes is crucial in the creative process.

Whendy enjoys producing her own art work for sale in local venues. Her work is posted on the gallery page. Whendy's greatest passion is teaching and inspiring children to create. She loves watching how art can build up children's self-esteem, encouraging their sense of adventure and affirming their abilities to take initiative and empower themselves.
